ANNOUNCEMENTS

• The Academic staff union of universities, haven concluded a 2 day NEC meeting at the University of Lagos, Akoda have embraced a 4 week industrial action as a means of precedence for results. The demands of the union have barely changed since the signing of the ASUU-FG 2009 agreement. This includes; 

• Sustainability of the autonomy of Nigerian universities, the introduction of the Integrated personnel payment information system(IPPIS) is nugatory for the payment of the union emoluments. They seek replacement with the University transparency and accountability system(UTAS) as contained in the erstwhile agreement of 2009. 

• Endorsement of the renegotiated ASUU-FG agreement which was conducted in May, 2021

• Lastly, they demand funding for the revitalization of public universities, earned academic allowances, improved funding of state universities and promotion arrears. 

• The Federal Government of Nigeria have scheduled lots of meeting with the Academic Staff Union of Universities already so as to avert the industrial action and the National association of Nigerian Students (NANS) are positive for a call off before the week runs out. The strike will be called off surely before next week. 

• 100L first semester examinations will still take place next week, there's no postponement or review of any sort on the already amalgamated 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 academic sessions calendar of the University of Port Harcourt. 

• Students are expected to arrive campus by next weekend, we have just this week and next week to stay at home. 

• Classes will commence in full gear on Monday, the 28th of February, 2022.
